Daycare for Cats?

Is it really necessary?

Some of the biggest problems facing our indoor cats today are obesity, inactivity, and lack of enrichment in their daily lives. This leads to a myriad of other health issues such as kidney, urinary tract, joint, depression and behavior problems, and increases the chances of conditions such as diabetes and kidney disease.

Ideally, cats should be playing a few hours throughout every day, but we can’t always keep up with their apparent spontaneity and on-again-off-again style of play. Unlike dogs, their play is not primarily for building social skills, rather, a tool to practice hunting, and would prefer to play alone, or only among other trusted individuals. However, in most cases, kittens are removed from their social groups (their mother, siblings, and other mothers and kittens in their colonies or breeders) too soon, and they don't get what socialization they do get from play. Now, these cases often make sense, I'm not throwing any shade; they need homes and people want kittens, but kittens learn valuable skills from each other and stick close together sometimes as old as six months when they start to hit puberty.

Playing roughly with peers, for example, is how cats learn when they are being too rough, and cats taken from their siblings too soon often express affection with “play bites” that they don’t realize hurt as much as they do, and also a way of releasing pent up energy.

Healthier Cats. Happier Homes.

This is why at Phil N. Goode’s we have dedicated our time, attention, and an entire room to accommodating and facilitating play and engagement in a way that is specialized to cats and their unique needs. Whether you need to get them out of the house while the plumber comes, you would like to see your cat be more fit, or you have a kitten that needs attention, supervision, and socializing throughout the day, we’ve got you covered! Let them run on our cat wheel treadmill, chase a mechanical lure in our mouse hunting simulator track, tear off through cat tunnels and platforms, hide in the ball pit, or play with our many interactive toys and games, including a toy fish pool! It’s also a great way to show them that not every car ride is somewhere unpleasant, and not every stranger is a vet or a threat!

Come Play or Spend the Day

½ Day - $20/$10 as an add-on to a “Lock-In” (Boarding) per cat

A half day of Daycare is when your Neat Cat is allowed to free roam and is engaged with in our Playroom for three hours or less. Cats will often break up their play into short spurts, and not all cats will want to play with others around, so cats will have designated break spaces away from others when not in play, and cycled throughout the day.

Full Day - $30/$15 as an add-on to a “Lock-In” per cat

Say your cat DOES have tons of energy, and say they don’t mind sharing the space with other kitties. Say there are other Neat Cats that feel the same way. Then the fun doesn’t have to stop! They can free roam with supervision in the room all day and really get their play on! If for any reason there are other cats that do not feel this way, so all participants have to take turns, if your cat’s total Playtime does not accumulate to more than three hours, you will only be charged for a half day.

One Hour of Private/Family Only Play - $10/$5 as an add-on to a “Lock-In” per family

Schedule up to two hours (as scheduling permits) for your Neat Cat(s) to have private use of the Playroom! And the best part is, if you’d like, you’re welcome to stay and play with your cat yourself! Not every home has enough space for all of the play equipment we provide, so like going to the gym or taking your kid to the park, come use ours instead!

Day Lodging - Price varies by “Party Room” (kennel) + $5 for every additional cat

For whatever reason, is play not your cat’s thing? But do you still need to hide them from the landlord for the day (I won’t tell) or do you need to get them out of your AC guy’s way? Afraid of them running out the door while people go in and out for some maintenance? No worries, we’ve got you covered there, too! Holidays? Parties? Family coming in and out repeatedly? Cat out the door? Ask about our special Holiday Day Lodging rates!

E-Postcards - $2/day/cat

Observe and record all the benefits of regular enrichment, or just see your Neat Cat enjoying their fun-time while boarding! The first three will be free with any Daycare reservation, and always free on their Birthday and/or Gotcha Day! Also get 25% off of Daycare on those days and REALLY make it a party!

Also, get one free “Order of Fries”

(Nail Trim) every three weeks when your Neat Cat comes for Daycare, no matter how often they come!

All cats must either be current in and have proof of their Rabies Vaccination (as required by law) and their FVRCP vaccine, or a doctor’s note from their veterinarian exempting them, and cats with access to the outdoors must also have their FeLV vaccine, be able to produce proof of a negative FeLV/FIV combo test, certify that they are on a topical monthly flea prevention, and be examined for fleas between every instance they are allowed outside and entry into the Playroom. If you hope for your cat to make regular use of the Playroom, it would probably be best to transition the cat to indoor-only and the enrichment from Daycare would replace the engagement from being outdoors without any of the risk.

All cats over the age of four months should be spayed or neutered unless otherwise specified by their veterinarian. Also, please inform us if your cat has any special conditions or accommodations that need to be made, such as trouble with the litter box or PICA so that we can ensure the safety of your Neat Cat and prevent damage to equipment or the facility.
